Breast Lift

Back to You

Elevate your shape. Restore youthful contour. Feel like yourself again.

Over time, life events like pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and natural aging can cause the breasts to lose their youthful shape and position. If you’re experiencing sagging, volume loss, or downward-pointing nipples, a breast lift (mastopexy) may be the right solution to reclaim your confidence and silhouette.

At GJK Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gabriel J. Kaufman combines specialized training in both aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery to deliver natural-looking results tailored to your anatomy and goals. His dual training in the United States and France informs his uniquely artful approach to reshaping the breasts, restoring symmetry, and enhancing projection—without adding unnecessary volume unless requested.

What is Breast Lift?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that lifts and reshapes sagging or deflated breasts. Over time, the supportive ligaments within the breast stretch and elongate, often due to aging, pregnancy, nursing, or weight changes. This causes the breast tissue to descend and lose projection.

During a breast lift:

  • Excess skin is removed
  • The breast mound is reshaped
  • The nipple-areola complex is repositioned to a higher, more balanced location

The result is a firmer, more lifted breast contour that looks and feels more youthful. A breast lift may be performed on its own or combined with implants or fat grafting for additional volume enhancement.

Incision Patterns and Surgical Technique

Dr. Kaufman designs a custom incision plan based on your anatomy and degree of lift required. He does not use a one-size-fits-all approach—instead, he adapts standard mastopexy techniques for optimal contour and minimal scarring.

Common incision types include:

  • Periareolar (around the nipple) – for minor lifts (1–2 cm)
  • Vertical (lollipop) – for moderate lifts (2–5 cm)
  • Anchor (inverted T) – for significant lifts (>5 cm), combining periareolar, vertical, and inframammary fold incisions

Once excess skin is removed, the underlying breast tissue is reshaped and lifted. The nipple-areola complex is repositioned for natural balance and projection.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Conditions Can a Breast Lift Address?

With a breast lift, Albany patients can improve:

    • Sagging or drooping (ptosis) of the breasts
    • Elongated or flattened breast shape
    • Downward-facing nipples or stretched areolas
    • Asymmetry between breasts
    • Volume loss following pregnancy, aging, or weight changes

Mastopexy is also a popular choice for patients seeking revision surgery or enhancement without implants.

  • What Are the Benefits of a Breast Lift?

Beyond the aesthetic improvements, a breast lift can contribute to physical ease and emotional well-being. Many patients find renewed confidence, improved posture, and even better athletic performance.

    Benefits include:

    • Firmer, uplifted breast contour
    • Repositioned nipples for a more youthful look
    • Restored symmetry and balance
    • Enhanced fit in clothing and swimwear
    • Better body proportions and silhouette
    • Reduced strain on neck, shoulders, and back
    • Increased self-esteem and body confidence
  • Will a breast lift change my cup size?

Mastopexy procedures and lifting the breast can give the appearance of increasing the breast volume by enhancing overall projection and consolidating volume into a smaller skin envelope. The total volume of the breast tissue itself does not change, unless adding volume through a fat grafting procedure or using a breast implant to increase volume and projection. If you desire considerably more volume a combined procedure can best achieve this goal, but we have found that often the desired effect can be achieved without needing to use implants.

  • Will I have visible scars after a breast lift?

This is my favorite question regarding surgery. Each incision is resulting in tissue healing and scar formation. Scaring is a natural process and our bodies' way of recovering from the surgical incisions. So, scarring is inevitable but typically fades and becomes less noticeable over time. If you have a tendency towards poor healing or scar formation we can address that prior to surgery.

  • Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?

Most women can breastfeed after a breast lift, but it's important to discuss this with Dr. Kaufman if you plan to have children in the future.
